DHS Recognizes ANAB to Accredit Labs Testing Emergency Responder Equipment

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Interoperability and Compatibility has recognized the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB) for the upcoming Project 25 Compliance Assessment Program (P25 CAP). The focus of P25 CAP is to ensure that emergency response agencies be assured that their communications equipment meets appropriate standards.

Under the voluntary program, equipment suppliers undergo assessments by DHS-authorized accreditation bodies such as ANAB to demonstrate that their products comply with requirements in the P25 standards.

Participating test laboratories will be required to demonstrate their competence through a rigorous assessment process. The intent is to promote confidence in and acceptance of test results from DHS-recognized P25 CAP laboratories.

P25 CAP equipment suppliers will be required to use recognized laboratories to conduct performance, conformance, and interoperability tests on their products. DHS will require recognized laboratories to be accredited by ANAB or another DHS-authorized accreditation body.

ANAB’s P25 CAP services are available to commercial laboratories, manufacturers’ in-house laboratories, university laboratories, and federal, state, and local government laboratories. For more information on P25 CAP, visit
