ANSI has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to provide accreditation for the Green Button Interoperability Testing and Certification Authority (ITCA) program. The agreement formalizes cooperative work on an ANSI accreditation program that will be required for certification bodies and laboratories participating in the Green Button ITCA program for consumer energy-use information.
Green Button is an industry-led, government-supported effort to have utilities to provide customers with easy and secure computer access to information about their energy use. Customers can download detailed information by clicking a green button on the website of a participating electric utility. With data in hand, consumers can make informed decisions and take advantage of online services to help manage energy use and save money.
ANSI's involvement comes in responds to the need for an independent, third-party accreditation to ensure quality and foster confidence in CBs and laboratories participating in the program. ANSI will assess competence in accordance with Green Button ITCA program requirements and the following international standards and guidance:
